Canada Day Celebrations
These are pictures of the Richmond Performance of our Canada Day full day of performances.
The First Nations people that I took pictures of are Secwépemc, or Shuswap peoples of the Northern Salish. Specifically the T'exelc from Williams Lake of the Williams Lake Indian Band. The man in full regalia is named Mike. They came all the way from the interior in order to perform and express their culture in celebration of Canada day.
(an interesting aside, in lieu of the celebration of the birthday of Canada, a lot, if not most of Western Canada is very much "unceded" territory in what is disputed land claims for various First Nations. I celebrate Canada Day for the history of the country and how this country has opened it's arms to my family and people like me, but it is import to reflect on the true history of our nation.)
