2020: Tengaw

Tengaw: The renewal and cleansing of the spirit after Calamity. It highlights the way of life of the Igorot people expressed in different rituals.

This project is supported by the government of Canada’s emergency support fund led by Employment and Social Development Canada and the Canadian Red Cross Society as part of red cross covid-19 emergency support for community organizations granting program. - Manay Olosan

We took this on at the end of summer, giving us merely the early fall to prepare. By the time it was the last week of October the new restrictions made me think that it was going to be cancelled. The week prior to the show newer more rigid restrictions were introduced which I really thought would cancel our show.

It didn't.

We were told that we were given the green light by Massey Theatre. Much like churches we were not closed. Because even during our time preparing each week with practices we observed social distancing, sanitation, and went above and beyond making sure we followed all the guidelines and more (even more than other institutions). We were fully prepared for the worst, should we need to contact trace, and held each and everyone of ourselves accountable.

Come the day of the show on Nov 14th, we were already below capacity and a lot of cancellations due to the new guidelines. Despite this the show went on. Thank you to the Massey Theatre stage staff for making sure everything was cleaned and sanitized while they worked the lights and sounds and guiding people to their seats. Thank you to the sponsors as well as BIBAK itself. Thank you all team.
